Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who we share your data with
Aside from interactions you make with third party content or functions on our website, we do not make a point of sharing your data with third parties. We understand your privacy is important and know how frustrating it can be to donate to a charity only to receive a barrage of electronic or even physical spam mail, and we pledge to do our best to protect your privacy and prevent contributing to that frustrating as a result stemming from your interacting with us. Simply put: we do not sell your data, and we only share it with third parties to the extent necessary for completing transactions you initiate with us or authorize us to initiate and execute on your behalf.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information on an as-needed basis, for bona fide business purposes.
We do not collect your sensitive payment information directly as we use third party payment processing tools. As such, your payment information is only collected and handled by the third party payment processors who will be identified to you during the execution of your payment transaction, which is subject to their own use and privacy policies.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
We have a policy of limiting the sharing of your data to bona fide business purposes, and we do not make a point of sharing your data with third parties. While some elements of our site may involve the use of third party functions (e.g., videos, payment processing, etc.), it may be necessary to share some of your data in the normal course of business with them in order to facilitate the experience. In these cases, we pledge to do our best to limit the data that is shared in alignment with industry leading practices, with privacy top of mind. In addition, visitor comments that are posted on our site may be checked through an automated spam detection service, to drive the safety and security of our site and its users.
